Based on their experiences in seeking funding for their own projects or those of other organizations in Algeria, France, Turkey, Morocco and Palestine, the MedWF's founders concluded that there was a need for a structure dedicated to financially supporting the movement for the emancipation of women in the region.
Aware of the challenges faced by women in the field, we provide flexible and accessible financial support to women's associations and their networks, and strive to strengthen the organizational capacities of women's rights defenders. The human size of our organization, our staff's multiple identities, and our close relationships with associations and existing networks provide us the expertise and flexibility needed to achieve these objectives.
The MedWF focusses on:
strengthening networks at the regional level through meetings, sharing information and experiences, and the coordination of projects;
strengthening women's movements at the local level by supporting organizations' day-to-day operations, training young women, and backing innovative or sensitive projects;
and, depending on the context, helping individuals to participate in meetings or receive emergency assistance.
The MedWF supports organizations and networks around the Mediterranean by:
providing information on the donor community working in the region;
helping organization members participate in training programs on project development, budget management and fundraising;
contributing to the development of a local charitable community.
