Alya Chérif Chammari

Tunisian consultant expert, lawyer, women’s rights and gender equality activist, member of several national and international human rights organizations.

- Lawyer in numerous tribunals on the repression of human rights and violence against women and girls, upon the request of the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights, the Tunisian Women's Association for Democracy (from 1999 to 2010) and the International Federation of Human Rights Leagues ( 2001 and 2010).

- Lawyer at the International Criminal Court - The Hague, the Netherlands (since 2007)

- Gender” policy advisor to the Executive Committee of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (from 2012 to 2015).

- Member of the highest body for the realization of Objectives of Revolution, Democratic Transition and Institutional Reforms (2011) (working on the electoral code, law on associations and liberty of the audio, visual, and print media etc.).

- Expert on the Death Penalty Working Group of the African Commission for the African Union (2008 -2010).

- Member of the Commission to amend the Tunisian Personal Status Code in order to strengthen women’s rights (2002-2003).

- Executive Director of the network, Collectif 95 Maghreb Égalité (2009), itself a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network based in Copenhagen.
