Women Now for Development was founded in June 2012 in Paris by Syrian writer and journalist Samar Yazbek, and works to empower Syrian women in Syria and its neighboring countries. The association works from Syria and cooperates with local partners, grassroots organizations, civil society activists and international NGOs to strengthen the role of women in Syrian communities by improving their social, economic and cultural situation.

At the Almadjal center, the organization works with 300 women and offers different types of trainings, which women can enroll in daily: English (3 levels), basic computer skills, general information on health and sexual and reproductive health and rights, sewing, knitting, hair/makeup, or a "General Knowledge" workshop to learn how to write a CV, apply for scholarships, universities, etc. The organization also provides psychosocial support in order to provide women with a safe place and support in dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 crisis.
